RubyAnn Stiegelmeier's roots are in rural South Dakota, and writes folk songs and modern classical piano music. Her current projects include a series of songs and compositions themed around the nature and history of the Great Plains of North America.

Her piano studies began as a child on her family’s farm in rural South Dakota, and she worked as an accompanist, house pianist and massage therapist before beginning her current foray into the world of songwriting and performance. Her music video, Home Again, was awarded Best New Filmmaker in 2022 at the Spring Grove Caledonia Film Festival, and her composition for piano duet, Song on the Steppes, was awarded first place in the 2009 MTNA of South Dakota’s regional composition competition. 

She has trained with Rachel Walker, Alasdair Murray, Dr. Paul Wirth, and Dr. Marcela Faflak. She believes kindness is the best approach in collaboration and performance,  finds inspiration in the sounds of nature and the often overlooked details of rural life, and considers herself lucky to live in western North Dakota with her partner and her two dogs.
